Transmission

The many elements that usually make up an objective lens reflect and absorb the collected light, typically reducing the overall transmission by 10-20%. So it is important to check the transmittance curve for the intended wavelength range, for example here is the data for a Nikon 100x1.35 Silicone objective (MRD73950):
